What tribute to the golden era of hip hop would be complete without some straight up battle rhymes? To that end we’re shining this week’s spotlight on Roxanne Shante who was involved in two of the most memorable battles of all time: the Roxanne Wars and The Bridge Wars (Juice Crew vs. Boogie Down Productions). “Big Mama” is a non-stop barrage of dope punchlines aimed at rival female MCs - classic! We fused Shante’s irascible battle rhymes with the raw, heavy funk grooves of UK multi-instrumentalist and producer Adam Gibbons (aka Lack Of Afro). This joint will have your head nodding and fingers snapping. Enjoy!
